Located in Northeast Florida, Atlantic Beach claims miles of laid-back beaches and close proximity to excellent golf, parks and the big-city energy of Jacksonville. It also shimmers with history, the site of what many experts believe was the first year-round Native American settlement in North America. Now, the visitor finds houses and condos, a few hideaway hotels and a commercial strip or two, because everyone needs necessities from time to time. Also be sure to visit Hannah Park, a magnet for surfers, beachcombers, campers and bicyclists along Atlantic Beach's northern border, a place that keeps a bit of Old Florida alive.
Farthest north, the quaint, historic village of Mayport is home to casino boats and seafood restaurants, offering their freshest catch. Dine on freshly-caught seafood, including the local specialty, Mayport shrimp. Then head over to Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park, providing what many consider to be Jacksonville's favorite biking and hiking trails. The park also offers camping and spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean and surrounding wilderness.
As the only full-service oceanfront spa in Northeast Florida, the Spa at One Ocean Resort touts beautiful views of the rolling surf from the comfort of its meditative lounge. Offering a sensory stimulating journey in an intimate setting, the spa offers more than 40 marine-inspired rituals comprised of specialty treatments, unique massage styles, body wraps, peels, facials and more.
Naval Station Mayport is one of three major Navy installations in the Jacksonville area. Mayport is home to a busy seaport as well as an air facility. The mission of NS Mayport is to sustain and enhance warfighter readiness. Naval Station Mayport is also home to the Navy's 4th Fleet, reactivated in 2008 after being deactivated in 1950.
